This new concept allows you to dictate directly into a hand held recorder. However, instead of saving onto a tape, it saves onto a memory card similar to a digital camera. The machine is then plugged into a PC via a USB cable (provided with the machine) and the files are uploaded onto your hard drive.
The clarity of the files is excellent and as they are on a PC, they can be e-mailed across, transcribed and the finished documents e-mailed straight back to you. This ensures a very fast turnaround with no postal delays.
Your Office Manager is happy to source a suitable dictaphone on your behalf.
Digital Dictaphones usually retail at around £125.00 plus VAT and postage. We recommend Olympus dictaphones as they are extremely reliable, save files in DSS format - the most suitable for digital dictation - and come very reasonably priced.
Beware of cheaper models (in particular note takers that retail between £30 & £50) as usually these do not have facilities to upload to PC or only create WAV files which are unsuitable for emailing.
10 mins of dictation in DSS format creates a digital file that is 1MB in size.
In comparison, 10 mins of dictation in WAV format creates a digital file that is 13MB.
